Last week VOICE IRELAND along with a number of other health and environmental groups submitted and open letter to Ministers Ossian Smyth and Stephen Donnelly, explaining why these products need to be banned:

These single-use smoking products contain plastic, lithium, and toxic chemicals, which are not biodegradable or easily recycled. Their recycling process is highly labour intensive as each unit must be dismantled by hand.. ..one of the UK’s largest recycling facilities can only recycle around 700 vapes per week.

The letter also highlighted concerns on how vapes are marketed using kid-friendly flavours, like bumble-gum, and cotton candy, their brightly coloured packaging and how low cost is correlated to increasing youth consumption. We spoke with Stephen of Voice Ireland about the campaign – Listen here: 

Following last week’s campaign launch Minister Smyth opened a public consultation on disposable vapes which is open until 27th July
