Band Profile: Balcony

by Jera Aideen Schiffrer

Galway is known for its diverse and lively music scene. Bands and musicians from all over the world flock to the town in search of success. The local pubs host live gigs almost every night so it is not a surprise the locals are involved in the scene as well. One of these local bands is Balcony that has been on Flirt FM twice, on Rock Aid and Take it or Leave It.

Balcony are a local band of three (to four) guys playing classic rock’n’roll, a rarity in today’s time of the indie and pop dominated music scene. Danny, Micheal and Cian are a trio of young lads from Co. Galway that got together about a year ago connecting over their love of classic rock’n’roll, with Cian finding his roots in metal. As the drummer of the band this is a much appreciated contribution to the percussion in their live sets.

The band usually plays rock’n’roll covers of all your favourite bands, including the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton as well as Don McLean and Noah Kahan. They manage to adapt newer songs to their own original sound, reminiscent of the Beatles and 60s rock’n’roll. In some of their gigs they also play their original songs, two of which you can listen to on the Flirt FM website, live stream or FM as well as on Flirt FM’s MixCloud Archive, by searching for the 20th of May 2024 Rock Aid show.

You can find the boys in Carroll’s, Darcy’s and Seven on most weekdays if you want to listen to them live, or just follow their Instagram for more updates on live gigs and their upcoming EP, hopefully coming at the end of summer. If you’re lucky you might stumble upon them on Shop Street in the summer months as well.

Their favourite colours are purple, red and green.
